Exclusive Birding Safaris in Uganda

Uganda’s birding safaris are a must for any passionate traveler’s bucket list, as they offer rewarding experiences in various destinations. As a premier birding safari destination in Africa, Uganda is home to over 1,070 bird species that inhabit its forests and savannah grasslands. This accounts for nearly half of all bird species found in Africa. Whether you opt for short excursions or longer safaris, birding in Uganda is an activity that can be enjoyed throughout the year.

One of Uganda’s unique bird species is the Fox’s Weaver, which is endemic to the country and cannot be found anywhere else in the world. It can be spotted in the districts of Kumi and Soroti.

The Shoebill Stork, another sought-after bird species, is endemic to Africa and can be found in various locations in Uganda, including the Mabamba wetland and Murchison Falls National Park. Many birdwatching enthusiasts consider it a must-see during their safari in Uganda.

Best Time for Uganda Birding Safaris

Uganda offers bird-watching tours throughout the year, but the optimal time for birding safaris is during the dry season, which typically spans from late May to September. The weather and climate play a significant role in determining the success of these trips. In the southern region of Uganda, the dry season occurs from June to August and December to February, while the rainy season takes place from March to May and September to November. In the northern region, the wet season lasts from late March to early November, followed by the rainy season from November to March. It’s worth noting that none of these weather conditions are extreme, allowing birding safaris to be conducted at any time. However, if you have a specific park or bird-watching site in mind, it is advisable to check the best time for birding in that particular location.
