Have lunch and set off to Volcanoes National park where you arrive in the early evening for relaxation as you await tomorrows adventure in the beautiful jungle of Volcanoes.
Today, you shall have breakfast at the lodge and get ready for an exciting activity – the Golden monkey trekking. These striking primates are a treat for the eyes. It’s a photographer’s paradise, with their vivid orange fur standing out against the lush rainforests of the Virunga Mountains!
Like their gorilla neighbors, golden monkeys are found in only few locations outside of Volcanoes National Park. They are incredibly colorful, have an exuberant behavior, and may be found in groups of up to 30 monkeys.
Return to your Lodge and have a relaxed afternoon as you wait for dinner and overnight. You can choose to take a guided community walk or visit the beautiful Twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo.
After breakfast, enter the forest and search for another unique primate, or hike to Dian Fossey Tombs nestled between the beautiful peaks of Burera and Ruhondo, or Climb Mt. Bisoke, which is an extinct volcano in the Virunga ranges standing 3,711 meters with an impressive crater lake at the end of the summit.
The lake can be reached in 6 hours and it takes about 3 hours to descend to the starting point. The hike is an exciting one. Enjoy their view and return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation as you await tomorrows gorilla trekking adventure.
Enjoy your beautiful breakfast and head to the park headquarters with packed lunch & water for the briefing about the dos and don’ts while with the gorillas, and then proceed to track the gorillas. Depending on the last known location, your gorilla trekking may take between 2-7 hours depending on the movement of gorillas.
Upon locating the adorable gorillas, enjoy the moments with them, take as many photos as possible keeping in mind, you have a maximum of one hour and thereafter, return to the gorilla trekking starting point before proceeding to your lodge for relaxation as you wait for dinner and overnight.
Unfortunately, you shall have to bid farewell to Volcanoes’ Musanze region. You shall have a great breakfast and embark on a morning Musanze cave exploration before departing for Kigali. The Musanze cave tour starts early morning at 7 am and it’s a 2km long and the most frequently visited. It is on the Innes University grounds and lies in the volcanic region dating back 65 million years, where the lava flows contributed to the Albertine Rift Valley. The cave is part of the lava basaltic layers from the Bisoke and Sabyinyo volcanoes.
After the encounter, drive back to Kigali before you are dropped off at the Kigali International airport or accommodation of choice.
