Your guide from Friendly Gorillas welcomes you at Kigali International Airport, Entebbe International Airport, or your hotel depending on the confirmed starting point.
For guests starting from Kigali, the route gives faster access to southwestern Uganda. You drive through Rwanda’s rolling hills, complete border formalities, and continue into Uganda’s highland region. This option works well for guests who want a shorter connection to Bwindi.
If you are starting from Entebbe or Kampala, the drive is longer but scenic. You pass towns, farms, roadside markets, banana plantations, and the Equator area before continuing toward southwestern Uganda.
The final stretch takes you through terraced hills, winding roads, villages, and forested slopes. Bwindi has different trekking sectors, including Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga, and Nkuringo. Your lodge depends on the confirmed gorilla permit sector.
At Friendly Gorillas, we match your lodge to the trekking sector so guests avoid unnecessary movement on the gorilla trekking morning.
Arrive in the evening, check in, have dinner, and rest.
Accommodation options in Bwindi:
Wake up early, have breakfast, and transfer to the park headquarters for gorilla trekking briefing. This is the main highlight of the safari.
The ranger guides explain trekking rules, forest safety, gorilla behavior, and how you should behave near the gorilla family. After briefing, you enter the forest with ranger guides and trackers.
The trek may take a shorter or longer time depending on where the gorilla family moved overnight. Some guests find the trek moderate, while others meet steeper and muddier sections. The forest is natural, so you should prepare for changing trail conditions.
When you find the gorillas, you spend up to one hour with them. You may watch a silverback resting, mothers feeding, young gorillas playing, or the family moving through the forest.
This experience gives the trip its emotional center. You do not simply see wildlife from a distance. They stand in the forest, follow ranger guidance, and experience mountain gorillas in their natural home.
After the trek, return to the park offices and receive your gorilla trekking certificate. Your guide then transfers you back to the lodge for lunch and rest.
Accommodation options in Bwindi:
After breakfast, enjoy a Batwa cultural experience near Bwindi. This activity gives the safari a human and historical layer after the gorilla trekking day.
The experience may include storytelling, local traditions, forest heritage, music, dance, craft knowledge, or guided interpretation depending on the community arrangement. You learn about people historically connected to the forest and how life changed around conservation areas.
At Friendly Gorillas, we recommend this activity for guests who want more than wildlife photos. It helps them understand the region more deeply and supports local people around the gorilla tourism economy.
After the cultural experience, transfer to Lake Bunyonyi. This scenic lake is surrounded by terraced hills and dotted with islands. It is one of the best places to rest after the physical effort of gorilla trekking.
Arrive at your lodge, check in, and spend the evening at leisure. You may relax by the lake, take photos, or enjoy the quiet highland setting.
Accommodation options at Lake Bunyonyi:
Budget: African Tent Resort or Lake Bunyonyi Eco Resort
Standard: Arcadia Cottages
Luxury: Lake Bunyonyi Bird Nest
After breakfast, spend a relaxed morning at Lake Bunyonyi. This gives you time to enjoy the lake before continuing to the wildlife section of the safari.
You may add a canoe ride, motorboat trip, island visit, or community walk. A boat or canoe ride gives better views of the lake’s islands, birds, hills, and lakeside homes. This activity works well if you want a calm morning before another transfer.
After the lake experience, drive toward Queen Elizabeth National Park. The route takes you through southwestern Uganda’s highlands, rural towns, farms, and changing landscapes.
As you approach Queen Elizabeth, the scenery shifts from highlands into savannah, crater areas, wetlands, and lakes. This transition gives guests a clear sense of Uganda’s variety.
Arrive at your lodge near Queen Elizabeth National Park, check in, and relax.
Accommodation options in Queen Elizabeth National Park:
Wake up early for a morning game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park. The early hours give better chances of seeing wildlife while the temperatures are cooler.
Your guide drives through selected tracks while looking for elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, warthogs, antelopes, and other wildlife. Lions or leopards may also appear depending on movement, timing, and luck.
This day adds the classic safari feeling to the itinerary. After forest, culture, and lake scenery, you now experience open plains, wildlife movement, and a different side of Uganda.
Return to the lodge for lunch and rest.
In the afternoon, take the Kazinga Channel boat cruise. This is one of Uganda’s best boat safari activities because many animals gather near the water.
Guests may see hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes, elephants, waterbirds, and other wildlife along the banks. The boat gives calm, close, and safe viewing, which makes it valuable for photography and relaxed observation.
Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Accommodation options in Queen Elizabeth National Park:
• Budget: Pumba Safari Lodge or Engiri Game Lodge
• Standard: Ihamba Safari Lodge or Buffalo Safari Lodge
• Luxury: Katara Lodge, Elephant Plains, or Mweya Lodge
After breakfast, begin the return journey to Kampala or Entebbe. Depending on your lodge location and timing, your guide may include a short scenic drive as you leave the park area.
The route takes you through western Uganda’s towns, farms, roadside markets, and rural landscapes. You stop for lunch along the way and continue toward central Uganda.
This final day gives you time to reflect on the mix of experiences they had within six days: mountain gorillas, Batwa culture, Lake Bunyonyi, Queen Elizabeth wildlife, and the Kazinga Channel boat cruise.
Your guide drops you at your hotel in Kampala, your hotel in Entebbe, or Entebbe International Airport depending on your final plan.
This marks the end of your 6 Days Uganda Gorilla Trekking, Batwa Culture and Queen Elizabeth Safari with Friendly Gorillas Safaris.
