At Friendly Gorillas, we recommend this itinerary for repeat visitors to Uganda, photographers, culture-focused travelers, adventurous couples, small groups, and you who want a safari beyond the common Bwindi, Kibale, and Queen Elizabeth route. It is not the best option for travelers who only want gorilla trekking, visitors with very limited time, or you who dislike long road transfers into remote areas.

Mountain gorilla trekking, mountain climbing, volcano hiking, bird watching, game driving

The 7 Days Kidepo, Karamoja and Sipi Falls Cultural Safari is a Uganda wilderness and culture itinerary for travelers who want something different from the usual gorilla and chimpanzee route. It combines Sipi Falls, Pian Upe or Karamoja landscapes, Karamojong culture, and Kidepo Valley National Park.
This safari gives you a more remote side of Uganda. Instead of focusing only on the popular western circuit, it takes them east and northeast into waterfalls, highland scenery, semi-arid plains, traditional communities, and one of Uganda’s most dramatic national parks. It is a strong option for travelers who want photography, culture, open landscapes, and fewer crowds.

Your guide from Friendly Gorillas meets you at your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe after breakfast. After a short briefing, you begin the drive east toward Sipi Falls.
The journey takes you through towns, roadside markets, sugarcane areas, farmlands, and views of eastern Uganda. This first day gives you a softer start before heading deeper into the more remote Karamoja and Kidepo region.
You stop for lunch along the way, then continue toward the Mount Elgon foothills. As you approach Sipi, the scenery changes into hills, gardens, cliffs, and waterfall landscapes.
Arrive in the afternoon or evening, check in, and relax. If time allows, you may enjoy a short village walk or viewpoint visit before dinner.
Accommodation options in Sipi Falls:
After breakfast, enjoy a guided Sipi Falls walk. This activity gives you a close look at the waterfalls, farms, local homes, and views around the Mount Elgon foothills.
Sipi is valuable because it adds scenery and soft adventure before the drier landscapes of Karamoja. You enjoy fresh air, green slopes, and photography opportunities around the waterfalls.
You may also add a local coffee experience. This works well for you who enjoy cultural travel because they learn how coffee is grown, processed, roasted, and prepared in the community.
After lunch, continue toward the Karamoja region. The landscape changes as you move away from the greener Mount Elgon area into more open and semi-arid scenery.
Arrive near Moroto or the selected Karamoja overnight area, check in, and relax.
After breakfast, enjoy a guided Karamojong cultural experience. This should be done with a knowledgeable local guide who can explain the culture respectfully and help you understand the region beyond surface-level sightseeing.
The visit may include homestead life, traditional architecture, cattle culture, local crafts, music, daily routines, and community stories depending on what is appropriate and available.
This day is one of the main reasons to book this itinerary. You do not only see wildlife but learn how people live in one of Uganda’s most distinct cultural regions.
After the cultural experience, continue the journey toward Kidepo Valley National Park. The route gives you wide landscapes, remote settlements, open plains, and views that feel different from western Uganda.
Arrive near Kidepo in the afternoon or evening, check in, and rest before the wildlife section begins.
Wake up early for a morning game drive in Kidepo Valley National Park. The early hours give better light, cooler temperatures, and stronger chances of active wildlife.
Your guide explores key areas such as Narus Valley, depending on wildlife movement and park conditions. This area often attracts animals because of water and grazing.
You may see buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, warthogs, birds, and, with luck, lions or other predators. Kidepo also gives some of Uganda’s best wide-open wilderness views.
Return to the lodge for lunch and rest during the warmer part of the day.
In the afternoon, head out for another game drive. The benefit of a full day in Kidepo is time. You are not rushing through the park. They get space to watch, wait, photograph, and enjoy the atmosphere.
Kidepo feels different from Uganda’s more visited parks. It is quieter, more remote, and more dramatic in its landscapes.
After breakfast, enjoy another game drive in Kidepo Valley National Park. A second wildlife day improves the chances of varied sightings because animal movement changes from one day to the next.
Your guide may explore new tracks or revisit productive areas from the previous day. This flexibility helps you get more value from their time in the park.
The wide valleys, rugged hills, and open skies make this a strong photography day. Even when animals are spread out, the landscapes remain rewarding.
Return to the lodge for lunch and rest.
In the afternoon, you may choose another game drive or add a community visit near the park. This works well for travelers who want a deeper cultural connection after the previous Karamoja experience.
At Friendly Gorillas, we recommend balancing wildlife and culture on this itinerary. That is what makes it different from a standard Kidepo safari.
After breakfast, begin the return journey from Kidepo toward Gulu or Kitgum. This transfer helps break the long drive back to Kampala or Entebbe.
The route takes you through remote northern Uganda landscapes, small towns, open countryside, and local communities. It is a long travel day, but breaking the journey makes the final return more manageable.
Arrive in Gulu or Kitgum in the afternoon or evening. Check in, relax, and have dinner.
This stop is practical rather than heavily activity-focused. It gives you a rest point before completing the journey back to central Uganda.
Accommodation options in Gulu or Kitgum:
After breakfast, start the final drive back to Kampala or Entebbe. You travel through northern and central Uganda, with lunch along the way.
The return journey gives you time to reflect on the variety of the trip: Sipi Falls, Karamoja culture, Kidepo wildlife, remote landscapes, and a side of Uganda many travelers never see.
Your guide drops you at your hotel in Kampala, your hotel in Entebbe, or Entebbe International Airport depending on your final plan.

We're always available throughout and after the trip.
we had the most amazing time in Uganda accompanied by our very Friendly tour guide Elias.
The support team that handled tour preparations were very kind and responded to every question we had in time. Bliss even went an extra mile to give us a video call during some of the sessions.
We were very lucky to see the rare tree climbing lions in the Ishasha sector or Queen Elizabeth while exiting for Bwindi.
I highly recommend this company because they met all our expectations and even delivered more than we imagined.
Cannot recommend this company enough!!! Anthony and Brenda are fantastic and worked with us to ensure we had the trip of a lifetime. All expectations were not only met, but greatly exceeded! From our exhilarating itinerary to the memorable accommodations, every part of the experience was extraordinary.
All the activities including river rafting, game drives, gorilla/chimp/rhino treks and boat rides were spectacular, with stunning views and incredible wildlife sightings, and the food was fantastic throughout. Accommodations were wonderfully planned, and each place we stayed offered something different, but all were so lovely. The warmth and hospitality from everyone we met in Uganda is indescribable. What truly made this trip special, though, was our guide, Eddie. He was knowledgeable, professional, passionate, joyful, and also so attentive to our group’s needs.
We could not have asked for a better driver/guide – he went above and beyond to ensure we had a life-changing adventure every step of the way while simultaneously feeling like a member of the family. It was clear he genuinely cared about making sure we had the BEST time possible. This was more than a vacation – it was an adventure I’ll never forget, and I’m still majorly struggling with post-Uganda depression! Thank you Anthony, Brenda and Eddie for the most unforgettable experience ever. We miss you all!
It was a solo yet memory filled experience right from my first inquiry to the last day of the trip. Everything was smooth. My tour guide Eddie was beyond friendly and had an eagles eye for even the smallest animals.
The most memorable moment was my first sight of the mighty Gorillas in Bwindi.
I highly appreciate and recommend friendly Gorillas safari
From the planning stages to the first meet and greet, Anthony, Brenda and their team went above and beyond to ensure we had the trip of a lifetime! Friendly Gorilla Safaris gave us everything we asked for while keeping in mind our mid-range budget.
They are excellent with communication, professional, patient, and were able to answer all our questions. Our itinerary was amazing with river rafting, game drives, chimp trek and of course the gorilla trek. Accommodations were great, food delicious and Eddie our driver/guide was fantastic! Highly recommend this company.
Excellent organization considering that Tony managed to plan the entire tour, permits for gorillas and chimpanzees included, just one day before departure. This is not taken for granted since the tour operator we had contacted months earlier canceled our trip 3 days before departure!
Our driver Tony, who also served as our guide, was always caring and attentive to our needs. Uganda is a country full of natural wonders, and being able to enjoy it peacefully with the right quality-price ratio allows for a full experience of all the activities
We had such a great time on our 2 day / 1 night Safari tour to Akegara National Park in Rwanda. Jado was our AMAZING tour guide who made sure we were cared for and had everything we needed during our time!
Prior to the trip, I had seamless communication with the Safari group who helped figure out exactly what Safari tour I wanted (1 day or more). They sent an example schedule as well as several lodging options. We ultimately chose the “budget” option which was the Rhino Lodge — it did not feel budget at all! It was GORGEOUS and the food was amazing. We even asked if we could adjust the schedule and they were more than happy to accommodate.
We had a fabulous time traveling to the park with Jado, getting settled and eating at the Rhino Lodge, participating in a half day safari that also included a water tour where we saw Rhinos, Crocodiles, Buffalos… and lots of birds! As soon as we drove into the park we saw an elephant and as we were leaving we saw Baboons. We slept and ate well and then the adventure began early the next day, where we had a full day of Safari through the park. We were able to see more Buffalos, impala, Baboons, Giraffes, rhinos, zebras, warthogs and even a rogue hippo wandering around on land. We unfortunately did not see any big cats (leopards or lions) but Jado certainly tried his best to find them.
Once we paid the initial fee prior to the tour, everything was included. This was an amazing trip, we felt very safe, and I would absolutely book again with this company. Thank you guys so much for being so great and easy!!!
