At Friendly Gorillas, we recommend this tour for travelers who want gorilla trekking plus wildlife without adding too many days or going as far as Queen Elizabeth National Park. It suits couples, families with older children, solo travelers, photographers, and guests who want a comfortable short Uganda safari. It may not suit travelers who want lions, large predator sightings, or a full Big Five safari, since Lake Mburo is better known for plains wildlife, birds, lake scenery, and gentle safari activities.

Welcome to Africa. We hope your arrival was in the morning. Today, our driver guide shall pick you and give you a briefing before a departure for the famed Queen Elizabeth national Park. You shall drive as you traverse the countryside of Uganda and later have lunch in Mbarara enroute to Queen Elizabeth. Upon arrival, embark on a fascinating evening game viewing to meet all the four of Big 5 African games. You shall also take sight of hippos, antelopes, warthogs and more. Retire and transfer to your safari lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight.
Today, you shall wake up early morning before proceeding for a sun-rise morning game drive in the Kashenyi part of Queen Elizabeth to look for some of the games you didn’t see the previous day. After the encounter, proceed for a rewarding boat cruise to sightsee some animals including hippos, crocodiles, other aquatics and more. After the encounter, embark on a transfer to Bwindi where you arrive in the early evening as you drive via the Isasha sector for possibility of sightseeing the famed tree-climbing lions of Uganda that can be seen only here and Lake Manyara in Tanzania.
Today is one of the most exciting days. You get to visit the adorable, gentle giants. Wake up early in the morning and drive to the gorilla trekking headquarters for a briefing that starts at 7:30 am. Here, they shall brief you about the gorilla trekking dos and don’ts. Ensure you have enough drinking water and some bites. If necessary, hire a porter to help you with some luggage if necessary.
After meeting the mountain gorillas, you have up to 60 minutes to watch them as they play, relate and feed. You are free to take as many photos as possible.
Just ensure you are at least 6 meters from the gorillas and avoid using flashlights when taking photos.
After the whole experience, return to the gorilla trekking starting point to transfer to Lake Bunyonyi, where you shall have a relaxing evening in the second deepest lake in Africa.
Wake up in the morning, have breakfast and embark on a transfer drive to cross the Uganda-Rwanda border as you head to Volcanoes. Your driver shall help you with the border and finally cross to Rwanda. Have lunch en-route and continue to drive to Volcanoes arriving in the late afternoon or arly evening. Proceed to your accommodation for dinner, relaxation and overnight.
Rwanda is regarded as one of the most exciting gorilla trekking destinations out of the three countries that host mountain gorillas. This is because of how easy it is to access Volcanoes, the most developed infrastructure of Rwanda, and more.
After your early morning breakfast, you shall head to the park’s headquarters for a Gorilla trekking briefing before embarking on a trail in the jungle to look for the adorable gorillas of Rwanda. Upon locating the mountain gorilla, you have the chance to watch them and take as many photos as possible. You have 1 hour with them.
After the exciting experience, return to the starting point to collect your Rwanda gorilla trekking certificate and return to the lodge for a late evening community encounter, where you get to watch the local community members perform, and you are free to join them and have fun.
After your morning breakfast, today you head to the Volcanoes park headquarters for a briefing about golden monkey trekking. You have another chance to meet yet another primate of Rwanda. As you move inside the forest with enough drinking water, you shall meet the playful and orange-skinned small primates that live in groups of about 50 individuals. Golden monkeys are very stubborn and playful, but they are exciting to watch.
Golden monkeys are found only in Uganda, Rwanda, and Congo, and given the fact that they are endangered, this is an impressive opportunity to sightsee them. After the encounter, return to your accommodation for relaxation. If you have enough time, ask your safari guide for an optional activity that you may take part in this evening.
Today, you shall drive and cross border to the Congo. Wake up early morning, have breakfast and embark on a drive to Buvaku, a town before the Kahuzi-Biega National park where you shall meet the giant Lowland gorillas the following day.
You will have an early breakfast and transfer to the National Park headquarters for a briefing at 8:30 am for a briefing on the expectations, rules to be observed during and after Gorilla trekking. In the company of armed ranger guides, you shall move to the forest in search of the lowland gorillas, and upon meeting them, you will spend 1 hour with the Gorillas. Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay after the exciting encounter.
Have a nice breakfast and bid farewell to Congo. After which, you will drive from the Kahuzi Biega National Park for about 2 hours through the border, and arrive in the famous Nyungwe area for tomorrow’s exciting adventures. You shall leave here with great memories of immense gorilla encounters.
Arrive at your Nyungwe accommodation for dinner, relaxation, and overnight after a tiresome transfer.
Today, after your early morning Breakfast, you will drive to Nyungwe Forest which is well known for having 13 species of primates. Transfer to the park for a briefing and chimpanzee trekking. On finding the chimpanzees, you will be allowed to spend 1 hour with them. Chimpanzees are more fun to be with compared to gorillas because, they are more intelligent and share quite a lot with humans.
After the chimpanzee trek, have lunch before heading for a canopy walk. This is an exciting adventure filled experience. Relax the rest of the evening and have dinner and overnight at your Nyungwe accommodation.
After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Kivu on the Rwanda side. Arrive in time for lunch. Enjoy the hot meal, later in the afternoon, you will go for a boat ride on Lake Kivu. Enjoy the sunset cruise as you explore some of the birdlife and islands in the Lake. After the excitement, rerun to your accommodation for further relaxation and overnight.
After breakfast you will breakfast and head for a coffee tour in Kinuni washing station in Gishenyi. Take a tour as they walk you through the whole process of making coffee right from the planting to the processing time. Enjoys some organic coffee and embark on a swift transfer to Akagera National park arriving in the late afternoon.
You will have an early breakfast and embark on an early morning sun rise game viewing in search for the exciting Big 5 games of Akagera National park. Here, you shall see other animals including giraffes, hippos, zebras, antelopes, many birds and more. After the encounter, have lunch and later proceed for a rewarding Lake Ihema boat ride where you shall see some of the Akagera’ s aquatics including crocodiles, hippos and more. Return to your accommodation for dinner, relaxation and overnight.
After breakfast, at 9am you will drive from Akagera driving for about 4hrs before finally arriving in Kigali. Have lunch in Kigali in one of the restaurants, later be transferred to the airport for your departure. This marks the end of the safari and thank you for choosing us.

We're always available throughout and after the trip.
Excellent organization considering that Tony managed to plan the entire tour, permits for gorillas and chimpanzees included, just one day before departure. This is not taken for granted since the tour operator we had contacted months earlier canceled our trip 3 days before departure!
Our driver Tony, who also served as our guide, was always caring and attentive to our needs. Uganda is a country full of natural wonders, and being able to enjoy it peacefully with the right quality-price ratio allows for a full experience of all the activities
We had such a great time on our 2 day / 1 night Safari tour to Akegara National Park in Rwanda. Jado was our AMAZING tour guide who made sure we were cared for and had everything we needed during our time!
Prior to the trip, I had seamless communication with the Safari group who helped figure out exactly what Safari tour I wanted (1 day or more). They sent an example schedule as well as several lodging options. We ultimately chose the “budget” option which was the Rhino Lodge — it did not feel budget at all! It was GORGEOUS and the food was amazing. We even asked if we could adjust the schedule and they were more than happy to accommodate.
We had a fabulous time traveling to the park with Jado, getting settled and eating at the Rhino Lodge, participating in a half day safari that also included a water tour where we saw Rhinos, Crocodiles, Buffalos… and lots of birds! As soon as we drove into the park we saw an elephant and as we were leaving we saw Baboons. We slept and ate well and then the adventure began early the next day, where we had a full day of Safari through the park. We were able to see more Buffalos, impala, Baboons, Giraffes, rhinos, zebras, warthogs and even a rogue hippo wandering around on land. We unfortunately did not see any big cats (leopards or lions) but Jado certainly tried his best to find them.
Once we paid the initial fee prior to the tour, everything was included. This was an amazing trip, we felt very safe, and I would absolutely book again with this company. Thank you guys so much for being so great and easy!!!
we had the most amazing time in Uganda accompanied by our very Friendly tour guide Elias.
The support team that handled tour preparations were very kind and responded to every question we had in time. Bliss even went an extra mile to give us a video call during some of the sessions.
We were very lucky to see the rare tree climbing lions in the Ishasha sector or Queen Elizabeth while exiting for Bwindi.
I highly recommend this company because they met all our expectations and even delivered more than we imagined.
Cannot recommend this company enough!!! Anthony and Brenda are fantastic and worked with us to ensure we had the trip of a lifetime. All expectations were not only met, but greatly exceeded! From our exhilarating itinerary to the memorable accommodations, every part of the experience was extraordinary.
All the activities including river rafting, game drives, gorilla/chimp/rhino treks and boat rides were spectacular, with stunning views and incredible wildlife sightings, and the food was fantastic throughout. Accommodations were wonderfully planned, and each place we stayed offered something different, but all were so lovely. The warmth and hospitality from everyone we met in Uganda is indescribable. What truly made this trip special, though, was our guide, Eddie. He was knowledgeable, professional, passionate, joyful, and also so attentive to our group’s needs.
We could not have asked for a better driver/guide – he went above and beyond to ensure we had a life-changing adventure every step of the way while simultaneously feeling like a member of the family. It was clear he genuinely cared about making sure we had the BEST time possible. This was more than a vacation – it was an adventure I’ll never forget, and I’m still majorly struggling with post-Uganda depression! Thank you Anthony, Brenda and Eddie for the most unforgettable experience ever. We miss you all!
From the planning stages to the first meet and greet, Anthony, Brenda and their team went above and beyond to ensure we had the trip of a lifetime! Friendly Gorilla Safaris gave us everything we asked for while keeping in mind our mid-range budget.
They are excellent with communication, professional, patient, and were able to answer all our questions. Our itinerary was amazing with river rafting, game drives, chimp trek and of course the gorilla trek. Accommodations were great, food delicious and Eddie our driver/guide was fantastic! Highly recommend this company.
It was a solo yet memory filled experience right from my first inquiry to the last day of the trip. Everything was smooth. My tour guide Eddie was beyond friendly and had an eagles eye for even the smallest animals.
The most memorable moment was my first sight of the mighty Gorillas in Bwindi.
I highly appreciate and recommend friendly Gorillas safari
